NowKalamazoo Sunshine Week: Kill the Messenger film screening, Portage, Mich.

The week of March 10 in Sunshine Week across the United States — a celebration of the Freedom of Information Act and Open Meetings laws, two important ingredients to democracy and transparency in government.
As part of our Sunshine Week event series, NowKalamazoo and The Local Journalism Foundation will be hosting a film screening to promote awareness and discussion of issues related to open government.
NowKalamazoo has arranged a showing of “Kill the Messenger,” a 2014 film starring Jeremy Renner, based on a book and true story of a journalist’s struggle to reveal information about the CIA trafficking drugs and arms.
The film will show at Celebration Cinema Crossroads in Portage (6600 Ring Rd., Portage, MI 49024). Seating will begin at 6:40, with brief remarks before the film shows at 7 p.m.
